Interview with Kristy
1) Introduce Yourself.
My name is Kristy Sheppard, I live in Ottawa, Canada. I’m a mother of 2 amazing teenagers. I have always been passionate about health and fitness and I always strive to be the best version of myself.
2) How did you eat before carnivore?
I always ate consciously and was careful of what I ate, I have tried so many different “diets”. Keto, fasting 72 hours a week to alternate day fasting, whole foods, carb cycling, you name it I have tried it to optimize my health and I never quite felt like I was on the right path and never felt really good.
3) Why did you try Carnivore to begin with.
As a past competitor in the fitness industry I have tried every diet out there and seem to have also incorporated every type of supplement and short cut possible to get lean, build muscle etc. What I realized was I was really my most unhealthiest version on myself with ulcers in my 20’s, diagnosed with IBS, Diagnosed autoimmune disorder, back surgery, showing up in emerge with a large intestinal blockage to find out that there is no cure! How’s this possible when I’m eating so “healthy”? It was when the only option was surgery I was told to try a strict elimination diet. This is when I did some research and decided to go on a Strict Carnivore way of eating.
4) How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet.
I’m strict carnivore 7 days a week which means for me I consume only lean steak and eggs, water and coffee. I start my day with coffee and eggs, steak post workout (midday), steak and eggs complete my day. I’m completely full and satisfied and I never feel the need for eating other foods. I track my macros and aim for 60% fats and 40% proteins for me this works keeping my energy up and losing consistently. I use MCT oil to balance out my ratios if needed.
5) What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet.
Within a few days on this way of eating I felt way more energetic, workouts became easier, very quick recovery, my joint pain from my autoimmune issues have literally vanished, no more headaches, no cravings, and I feel mentally more clear and focused. I find this way of eating is so easy, easy to plan and travel with. Keeping it this simple has been the key to my success. I don’t need to read labels, or count calories.
6) What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet.
I honestly cannot think of any negatives I experienced , I was already eating a lower carb diet so I didn’t get the headaches or the detox type symptoms others mentioned when starting the program. It was a really easy transition for me to eat this way and is super easy to follow.
7) Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do.
I do exercise daily, I have always done circuit style training , high reps lower weight and have recently added in cardio on a daily basis. I find my recovery is amazing when you refuel your body post workout with a steak!
8) What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet.
I would say just start! It’s so easy to prepare for, steak and eggs is a great start. I actually have had many ask how to get started and what to eat that I have created a easy start guide that is downloadable from my Instagram page @thecarnivorechronicles. It is a great document that gets you on this way of eating without all the guesswork.
9) Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet.
As being part of a current Harvard Carnivore Study I believe we are finally getting the science needed behind it to be accepted as a mainstream way of eating.
10) Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow you.
I am always excited to share this way of eating with others and watch how their health improves in such a short time! I do offer coaching and a downloadable easy start guide to help people transform their health and bodies! You can find me on Instagram @thecarnivorechronicles
