Carnivore Diet success stories – with Carrie

Interview with Carrie

1) Introduce Yourself.

Hello, my name is Carrie and I am a 41 year old, Kansas girl.  I am a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and work for a pain clinic in their Toxicology lab.

2) How did you eat before Carnivore.

I was raised eating the Standard American Diet (SAD).  In college, I gained the freshman 15. I started drinking Slim-Fast and taking diet pills every single day.  This began my yo-yo dieting life. In my 20’s, I started drinking alcohol and ate the SAD. I packed on the pounds!  I started each year with a shiny new gym membership, new workout routine and cut back on calories. I would lose weight initially but then I would fall off the wagon by March and go right back to old habits.

In 2013, I was at my highest weight of 170 pounds at 5’4” tall.  I was so uncomfortable in my skin. My friend told me about the Eat to Live way of life.  I read the entire book. I was sold! I ate massive amounts of salads and I lost 30 pounds. I also walked 30-45 minutes per day. I felt good, I thought.  I was at my lowest weight during this time and super proud to be VEGAN.

In 2014, I met my current husband.  He was 45 years old at the time, he was eating the SAD and had recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  I introduced him to the Eat to Live way of life. His A1c went down, which made his doctor happy and he lost a significant amount of weight.  Long story short, we got lazy. We started relying on frozen processed food, French fries are vegan, and booze. We both packed on 20 pounds apiece and couldn’t understand why.  I was miserable yet again! I was going to the doctor frequently for sinus infections, anxiety, depression, headaches, ovarian cysts, violent mood swings, and of course the ever-famous decreased libido!

3) Why did you try Carnivore to begin with.

December 2018, several friends told me about the Keto diet.  I thought they were crazy for eating cheese, pork rinds and meat all the time.  I had sworn off all these foods! The scientist in me started researching deeper.  I watched YouTube like it was my life line. I learned everything I could from figures like KetoConnect, WatchAutumnKeto, DrBerg.  I started my keto journey January 2019. I tracked everything I put in my mouthwith the CarbManager app. I lost 20 pounds in 7 months, without exercise.  I was feeling good but I still had cravings and was hungry. This led to more research! I started following StrongSistas, NutritionwithJudy and LauraSpath.  These people changed my life!

4) How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet.

I currently use intermittent fasting, 16:8 sometimes longer.  Lunch is grilled meat or left overs of some sort, which can be reheated in the microwave. Dinner is more reheated grilled meat and a side of FAT!  I do NOT snack! I am attempting the nose to tail version of Carnivore. I have enjoyed every cut of meat and organ so far.

5) What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet.

The benefits from Carnivore have been TREMENDOUS! I have not been to the doctor for any illnesses in 2019.  I wake up before my alarm, ready to go to the gym. I am off all prescription medication. My depression, anxiety and violent mood swings have lessened dramatically each month.  I am happy to report that my libido is back! I stopped drinking ALL alcohol in January, so no more hangovers or headaches.

6) What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet.

Negatives on Carnivore; Its a little pricier maybe if you always buy the grass fed and the prime cuts of meat. I buy what we can afford.

7) Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Gym.  I hate going at 5am (my only option) but love the results when I stick with it!  Since December 2nd I have been lifting weights, Monday – Friday.  I can already see the results and I can’t wait to see what 2020 has for me.

8) What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet.

What are you waiting for?

Take it one day at a time!  Commit to 1 week or a month, see how you feel.  Find your tribe! We all started somewhere. It’s ok to “fall off the wagon”, just don’t stay there!  Connect with people on Instagram or Facebook. It’s so much easier to be successful on this journey, if you surround yourself with likeminded people.  Ask questions! Personally, I have reached out to so many people along my journey and they were all willing to help or answer questions.

9) Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet.

No, I don’t believe that the Carnivore way of eating will ever be accepted as mainstream. It’s such a shame!

10) Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow you.
