1) Introduce Yourself.
Melinda Appleby, 55 yr. old, wife, mom of 3 grown children.
2) How did you eat before Carnivore.
I ate vegetarian/vegan in the 80’s then SAD till around 2000 when I started the Atkins diet. Then I went back and forth between SAD, Paleo, Autoimmune, low carb till 2014 when I went full carnivore.
3) Why did you try Carnivore to begin with.
Several reasons: pain in my joints, out of control weight gain, food cravings and insatiable appetite, exhaustion to the point where I was falling asleep in the middle of the day. I’m a librarian and, at the time, was working in a maximum security prison. Despite the fact that I was in a room by myself with 40 inmates, I was dozing off. I figured it had to be my glycemic levels fluctuating and the only way I knew how to control that was through diet – by eliminating carbs.
4) How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet.
I eat dairy, drink coffee with heavy cream and drink alcohol once in a while. I will deviate from strict carnivore for special occasions, but it usually causes me great pain so I don’t do it regularly.
I eat chicken, seafood and pork but 90% of my diet is red meat. It’s the only thing that keeps me satiate and makes me feel content.
I’m struggling right now with hot flashes so I am supplementing with herbals and vitamins to combat them. I’ll stay on them for a month and reassess.
5) What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet.
More energy, no more afternoon slump.
I don’t eat as much or have cravings (I used to think about food nonstop).
More freetime – I don’t spend hours in the kitchen cooking high carb meals anymore.
My 30 year battle with Tinea Versicolor has ended.
My skin is softer than a baby’s bottom.
I never have body odour.
Lost ~30 lbs. I’m 5’2″ – my highest weight was 158, I’m now 125.
Symptoms of fibromyalgia are pretty much gone.
6) What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet.
None really, except if I over eat past fullness then I’ll get diarrhoea.
7) Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do.
Always been kind of active, hiking, skiing, on-again off-again runner since high school and have done a bunch of half marathons, the last one in May. I’m done with long distance running now though because it’s too time consuming and my body does not like, nor need, the extended cardio workout. I’m focusing now on upper body strength.
8) What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet.
Do it “your way”. Some people have to ease into it, some have to go into it cold turkey. Either way is fine, just stay the course and keep focused on the long term benefits of eating carnivore. It’s the ultimate elimination diet if it’s given a chance to work.
9) Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet.
No, only because people believe the propaganda and the narrative being pushed by our overreaching government and the media.
10) Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow your journey.
The claim that veganism is a healthy diet is a lie. The claim that red meat is unhealthy is a lie. The truth is out there, it must be pursued.
