Crystal’s Carnivore Triumph: A Journey from Processed Foods to Peak Health

Deep dive into an old carnivore diet success story: updated December 2023

Introduction

Welcome to a tale of transformation and resilience. Meet Crystal, a 30-year-old mother of three, living in the heartland of the United States. Her journey isn’t just about dietary changes; it’s a story of battling for informed consent and medical freedom. Like many, Crystal’s dietary history is a patchwork of economic circumstances and cultural influences. Growing up in a financially constrained household, her diet was primarily rice and beans, later transitioning to processed foods.

As a young adult, Crystal experimented with various diets – from Whole Foods to Paleo, Whole30, and even a brush with Veganism, which she recalls nearly cost her life. Her real turning point came after the birth of her middle child, sparking a desire for weight loss and strength training. It was a path that eventually led her to the Carnivore Diet, influenced by her husband’s success and her own health struggles, including anaemia, chronic fatigue, and hormone imbalance.

Crystal’s approach to the Carnivore Diet is not just about eating meat; it’s about embracing a nutrient-rich, nose-to-tail philosophy. She’s a staunch advocate for consuming the right nutrients, not just calories, and opts for a diverse range of animal products, including organ meats, to maintain her health. This introduction sets the stage for a remarkable story of health, healing, and empowerment through diet.

Crystal’s Path to Healing: Embracing the Carnivore Diet

The Shift from Processed to Primal

Crystal’s dietary evolution mirrors her life’s journey – complex, exploratory, and resilient. Her early years were marked by economic hardship, leading to a diet heavy in rice and beans. As she grew, processed foods became a staple, reflecting not just a cultural shift but also the challenges of her upbringing. The turning point came after the birth of her second child, igniting a quest for health that saw her transition through various diets – Whole Foods, Paleo, Whole30, and a perilous stint with Veganism. Each phase was a stepping stone, leading her closer to the diet that would redefine her health: the Carnivore Diet.

Discovering Carnivore: A Turnaround in Health

Inspired by her husband’s success, Crystal ventured into the Carnivore Diet, seeking relief from anaemia, chronic fatigue, and hormone imbalances. Her approach was holistic and informed – not just focusing on meat consumption, but on a nutrient-dense, nose-to-tail diet. She emphasized the importance of iron and other vital nutrients, turning to organ meats, bone broth, raw dairy, and even raw organ supplements. This wasn’t just a diet for Crystal; it was a lifeline to reclaim her health.

Remarkable Benefits and a Renewed Vigor

The transformation was profound. Crystal’s anaemia, once a debilitating condition, came under control through her diet, notably without relying on synthetic supplements. Her skin cleared, her mood improved, and she experienced enhanced strength and endurance. Interestingly, she noticed a significant increase in her libido, a testament to the diet’s impact on her overall well-being. Exercise, particularly high-endurance workouts like CrossFit, became more effective as her body adapted to the Carnivore Diet, further enhancing her physical capabilities.

Benefit 1: Combatting Anemia with Nutrient-Dense Foods

A Natural Approach to Iron Deficiency

One of the most significant benefits Crystal experienced on the Carnivore Diet was the improvement in her anemia. Anemia, particularly iron-deficiency anemia, can be debilitating, characterized by fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath. Crystal’s switch to a diet rich in animal organs, especially liver, provided her with a natural and effective way to increase her iron intake. Unlike synthetic supplements, which can have side effects and are not always efficiently absorbed, the iron from animal organs is highly bioavailable, meaning her body could use it more effectively.

The Holistic Impact of Adequate Iron Intake

The improvement in Crystal’s anemia had a cascading effect on her overall health. With better iron levels, her oxygen transport improved, leading to enhanced energy levels and greater physical stamina. This was particularly evident in her ability to engage in high-intensity workouts like CrossFit. Additionally, adequate iron intake is crucial for maintaining healthy skin, hair, and nails, contributing to her improved physical appearance and self-esteem.

Benefit 2: Enhanced Mood and Mental Well-being

From Dietary Change to Emotional Uplift

Another remarkable benefit Crystal experienced was the improvement in her mood and mental well-being. The Carnivore Diet, rich in high-quality proteins and fats, provided essential nutrients for brain health. Amino acids found in meat play a critical role in neurotransmitter production, which are key for mood regulation. For instance, tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin, often dubbed the ‘happiness hormone.’

Balancing Hormones through Diet

Furthermore, the diet’s impact on hormone balance cannot be overstated. Hormonal imbalances can significantly affect mood and emotional well-being. By addressing her hormonal issues through diet, Crystal found a natural way to stabilize her mood, reduce anxiety, and enhance her overall quality of life. This shift in her mental state was not just a personal victory but also benefited her family life, allowing her to engage more positively with her children and husband.

Conclusion: A Life Transformed by the Carnivore Diet

Crystal’s journey from a diet laden with processed foods to the nutrient-rich, whole-food approach of the Carnivore Diet is nothing short of inspiring. Her story is a testament to the power of dietary choices in transforming health. The improvements she experienced – from conquering anemia to enhanced mood and vitality – are profound. Crystal’s dedication to a nose-to-tail eating philosophy showcases the importance of nutrient density over mere calorie counting.

Her experience also highlights the individual nature of nutrition. What works for one may not work for another, and Crystal’s journey emphasizes the importance of listening to one’s body and making informed choices. The overall improvement in her life is holistic, touching not just on physical health but also mental well-being and family dynamics. Crystal’s story is a beacon of hope and guidance for anyone considering a significant dietary change, especially those struggling with similar health issues.

Interview with Crystal

1) Introduce Yourself.

My name is Crystal. I’m 30 years old. I have 3 kids, a husband, a dog, and 2 cats. I live in the middle of the United States and I fight for informed consent and medical freedom.

2) How did you eat before Carnivore.

Oh boy. As a kid, I was poor AF so we ate rice and beans a lot. Then as an adolescent we lived with my grandparents and always had a full belly… but a lot of it was processed… even the potatoes came out of a box dude. Then super shitty as a young adult….Well… when my middle child was a year old (he’s almost 6) I decided I wanted to lose weight and lift heavy shit. So I started eating Whole Foods. I still ate grains though. Then, from there paleo, then whole 30… then Vegan.. that diet that nearly killed me.

3) Why did you try Carnivore to begin with.

I tried it because my husband did it first and I saw his results. I had just recently come off being vegan and was doing Keto (I craved fat when I was vegan).  I really needed to heal my anaemia and chronic fatigue and hormone imbalance and carnivore seemed like it would help for sure.

4) How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet.

I try to eat nose to tail. I believe in NUTRIENTS… not just calories in calories out. Some people’s bodies are more susceptible to autoimmune disease.. because of genetics and certain mutations in genetics… that’s me, I’m one of those people.. so I have to make damn sure I’m getting all the right nutrients…. iron being one of them. It’s the culprit… so I have to do organ meats. I have no choice unless I want to supplement with chemical shit and that’s not an option for me at all. I do a wide variety of animals, bone broth, marrow, raw dairy, salmon roe, and organ supplements or I eat them raw.  I eat a lot of my meat pretty freaking rare. I have to.

5) What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet.

My anemia is the biggest thing. Being able to control it with animal organs and herbs is amazing. So amazing. I can breathe when I take a liver supplement. My acne is better. My strength and endurance are better. My mood is better.

6) What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet.

Ummm… my libido is legit crazy sometimes. If that’s negative or not, but sometimes it hits at the most inopportune times.

7) Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do.

I do CrossFit or high endurance workouts. At first, when my body was transitioning to carnivore I was a little slow, but in no time at all my body switched gears and I really think that was the difference in me getting stronger and faster.

8) What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet.

Ya dictate yourself on metabolic pathways… nose to tail… and electrolytes. Nutrients are the most important thing.. so educate

9) Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet.

Shit, if girls can be boys and boys can be girls than I think carnivore will soon be accepted too #sorrynotsorry

10) Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow your journey.

@butter_feen on Instagram

Um, everyone is different. We have a lot of genetic damage and it’s really important you listen to your body. That may be eating at a certain time of day or eating certain things… making sure your getting enough nutrients… I can’t express that enough. Fish, meat, organs… and enjoy the healing process. It’s amazing.

Enjoying these Carnivore interviews, especially Crystal’s because she’s totally no B.S. about her experience. If some people can eat only plants and be accepted, then why not people who can eat only meats/fish? Wellness first!
