Embracing a New Dawn: Raymond’s Introduction
Meet Raymond, a vibrant 27-year-old from the Netherlands, who has been navigating the challenges of Type 1 diabetes since he was 11. His journey through dietary landscapes has led him to the carnivore diet, a radical shift from his previous plant-based regimen.
The Turning Point: From Plants to Carnivore
Raymond’s diet once consisted of plant-based foods with occasional meat and eggs. However, a struggle with depression and a tumultuous family relationship propelled him towards the carnivore diet as a means to combat his binge eating habits and the ensuing mental and physical turmoil.
A Day in the Life: Raymond’s Carnivore Regimen
Raymond’s approach to the carnivore diet is one of abundance and variety. He indulges in two hearty meals a day, sometimes one (OMAD – one meal a day), packed with organ meats, fish, cheese, eggs, and butter-laden meats, complemented by black coffee.
The Bright Side: Benefits of Carnivore Living
Since adopting the carnivore lifestyle, Raymond has witnessed a significant reduction in depression and anxiety, an enhanced social life, and a surprising cessation of food cravings. The mental clarity and focus on meat when hunger strikes are profound changes that have reshaped his relationship with food.
The Struggle is Real: Challenges Along the Way
Transitioning to a carnivore diet was not without its hardships. Raymond faced an intense adaptation phase, with mental health struggles and societal judgment. Despite these hurdles, he persevered, finding strength in the diet’s benefits.
Physical Prowess: Exercise and the Carnivore Diet
Raymond is a testament to the carnivore diet’s compatibility with an active lifestyle. Engaging in weight training since 18, he’s experienced improved recovery times and is now surpassing his previous strength records, training almost daily.
Words of Wisdom: Raymond’s Advice for the Curious
For those contemplating the carnivore diet, Raymond’s advice is simple: give it a try. Especially for those who have faced repeated setbacks with other diets, this could be the transformative experience they need.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Carnivore Diet
While Raymond is skeptical about the carnivore diet becoming mainstream, he believes that a greater appreciation for animal products in our diets is on the horizon.

Interview with Raymond

Introduce Yourself.
Hello, my name is Raymond, and as of writing this I am 27 years young of age, I’m from the Netherlands. Since the age of 11 I have been a type 1 diabetic.
How did you eat before Carnivore.
Mostly a plant based way of eating, some meat here and there (mostly beef liver), and eggs eaten on a weekly basis.
Why did you try Carnivore to begin with.
Recently I acknowledged that I have been depressed for most of my adult life, due to my diabetes and a family relationship that inflicts a lot on me. Binge eating was a way of neglecting anxiety and depression on a short term, but doing a lot of damage to me mentally on a long term basis.
The vicious cycle was of following; I experience negative emotions → binge eat → short term good feelings/long term negative consequences → negative impact on my diabetes → negative emotions, and the cycle loops.
I am addicted to high palatable foods, which make me feel like a sort of ”high” when consuming them. For me it is impossible to have them in moderation, and I was looking for a way out, and the carnivore approach offered me that solution.
How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet.
I eat, a lot! I don’t restrict, restricting has lead me to a path of getting out of touch with my body and neglecting the signals its telling me.
A typical day of eating consist of two meals (sometimes I do omads, and include a lot of yummy ”junk” animal foods), organs meats are on the daily, fish, cheese, eggs, and meat smothered in butter! I also consume coffee (black).
What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet.
The two most important changes are reduction in my depression and anxiety, while being on a plant based approach, I had a very hard time leaving the house, meeting up with friends and loved ones and socializing in general, while still being very prevalent, I now meet up with friends more often and socialize more.
The other important change is that I no more crave foods, this literally blows my mind, while on a plant based way of eating, my mind was continually thinking about what my next meal would be, as of being on a carnivore approach, the thought of that is non existent.
Now when I am ”hungry” I want meat.

What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet.
Adaptation phase, it was horrible and gruesome. I had (and still have occasionally) thoughts about ending my own life, and while transitioning to a carnivore approach those thoughts were daily, its bizarre how the brain works in those mentally heavy situations, I was having mental conversations with myself that ”its okay to have an apple, you had a good workout today, you totally deserve it!”, knowing well that if I had that apple, a binge spree would conclude.
The other negatives are, the occasional runny bathroom trip and socially people WILL judge you and ”inform” you what you are doing is totally unhealthy.
Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do.
Yes! Weight training since I was 18 years of age, its a habit that invoked so many positive effects on my quality of life, and I am proud to say that even in these hardest parts of my life I maintained the habit.
As of transitioning from a carbohydrate burner to a fat burner, it took a hit to my strength, a minimal one (and totally worth it!) of about 10% of reduction of all my lifts. While saying that, I am now at the point of beating my old personal records!
Recovery is insane! Previously I had a hard time lifting weights on a daily basis, now I am lifting weights 6/7 times a week and maintaining or gaining reps!
What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet.
Cliche, but try it.
It all depends on where you stand in life at this point, if you are desperate and tried many other approached and failed, I can promise you, that a carnivore way of life, will make YOUR LIFE BETTER.
Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet.
Carnivore/zerocarb no, for many its too of an extreme approach way to eating, but in the future, I am of the opinion that people will realize that excluding animal products from your way of eating will have a grave negative impact in the long term health wise.
Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow your journey.
