Introduction
Hey, meat lovers! 🥩 Ever read a story that makes you want to jump up and shout, “See, I told you so!”? Well, Bret’s carnivore diet success story is just that—a jaw-dropping tale of transformation that’ll make you want to grill a steak in celebration. This guy went from battling depression and insomnia to living his best life, all thanks to the power of meat. So, grab your ribeye and let’s dive into this meaty saga!
Bret’s Journey to Carnivore Bliss
Bret Lloyd, a 57-year-old musician, was no stranger to the struggles of mental health. Despite being on a Low-Carb, High-Fat (LCHF) diet for 3.5 years and losing 94 pounds, he still grappled with lifelong depression, anxiety, and insomnia. But then, he stumbled upon the carnivore diet and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” Inspired by the likes of Dr. Jordan Peterson and Dr. Shawn Baker, Bret committed to 90 days of pure carnivory. And guess what? He’s never looked back!
The Vanishing Act: Goodbye, Depression!
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room—mental health. On day 23 of his carnivore journey, Bret experienced something extraordinary: his depression symptoms vanished. Poof! Gone! How did that happen? Well, the carnivore diet is rich in essential nutrients like B vitamins, Omega-3 fatty acids, and amino acids that are crucial for brain health. By ditching carbs and plant-based foods, Bret eliminated the culprits that often cause inflammation and hormonal imbalances, leading to mental health issues. So, it’s no surprise that his brain did a happy dance!
The Sleep Revolution: From Insomnia to Dreamland
Hold onto your T-bones, folks, because there’s more! Bret also kissed insomnia goodbye. Imagine going from surviving on 3-4 hours of sleep to enjoying a full 7-8 hours of peaceful slumber. Ah, the beauty of meat! The carnivore diet helps regulate cortisol levels, making it easier to fall and stay asleep. Plus, the high-fat content aids in the production of serotonin, the “feel-good” hormone, which eventually converts to melatonin, the “sleep hormone.” It’s like a bedtime lullaby for your brain!
Conclusion
Bret’s life has done a complete 180, and it’s all thanks to his carnivore lifestyle. From eradicating depression to conquering insomnia, he’s living proof that meat is more than just a tasty treat—it’s a life-changer. And if Bret can do it, why can’t you? Whether you’re dealing with mental health issues or just want to feel better overall, the carnivore diet could be your ticket to a healthier, happier life.

Interview with Bret

1) Introduce Yourself.
My name is Brett Lloyd. I am a 57-year-old musician/producer/songwriter of no particular note. I have been living carnivorously for right at 7 months. I take no pharmaceutical medications of any kind & I feel healthier now than at any time in my adult life.
2) How did you eat before Carnivore.
Before Carnivore, I was on a LCHF diet for 3.5 years in which I lost 94 lbs. Prior to that I was eating the SAD & weighed up to 289 lbs.
3) Why did you try Carnivore to begin with.
I decided to try Carnivore after watching Dr Jordan Peterson describe how he & his daughter had seen their lifelong severe depression symptoms vanish after they began eating beef & drinking water. Dr Shawn Baker & Amber O’Hearn also played a huge role in my deciding to give this way of eating a go. They all make very compelling arguments why humans SHOULD be eating this way vs the S.A.D. way that dominates much of western society. After watching their testimonials I knew I had to give this way of eating a solid chance because I wanted to be 100% free of my lifelong depression, anxiety & insomnia forever!
4) How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet.
I approached Carnivory with the certainty I was going to give it a solid 90 days before making any lasting judgments. I also felt confident something positive would take place due to the integrity of Dr Peterson, Dr Baker & Amber O’Hearn. I was not disappointed. I also knew that if I tried to only eat one kind of meat at any meal I would become instantly bored. I eliminated this concern by always eating 2 kinds of meat at every meal. Primarily beef & bacon. 7 months into the experience I have zero complaints. Deciding to eat meat & drink water has been one of the best decisions of my whole life!
5) What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet.
The benefits of living carnivorously have been many! 10 or so days in I woke up without ANY joint pain. I never thought I ‘suffered’ from joint pain but that I had “aches & pains” just as a matter of living to be 57. I felt incredibly healthier right then, to be honest, & that was but the 1st 10 days! On day 23 into day 24 as a carnivore, I felt ALL my depression symptoms VANISH.
They are GONE! I’ve also lost sour gut, hemorrhoids, dry flakey skin, skin tags, enormous amounts of body fat. I no longer suffer from headaches. My anxiety problem is GONE! I sleep 7-8 hours a night after decades of surviving on 3-4. I no longer suffer from hypothyroidism. My libido is back to what it was when I was a teenager. Every single aspect of my life has benefited from my decision to live carnivorously! I weigh what I did when I graduated high school & my waistline is again the same today as it was then, 32″. I am so blessed!

6) What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet.
I have suffered no negative effects from living carnivorously. I do not miss carbs, sugar or plants at ALL! I miss the mental illness even less as you might imagine.
7) Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do.
I do exercise some, light resistance training & I walk several miles a week. I do find I enjoy exercising more as a carnivore because I enjoy moving around a lot more now. I am gradually adding long, lean muscles & am increasing my core strength slowly & gradually as planned without issue.
8) What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet.
My 1st bit of advice for anyone considering living carnivorously is to PREPARE 1st. Go on a LCHF diet for 30 days 1st. IMO, this allows the healing process to begin & one can at the end of 30 days LCHF general expect to has a less contentious adaption phase after going full carnivore. Be sure to eat when hungry & when you eat be sure to eat until you are “not another bite” full. Eat the meat you crave & can afford. My 2nd bit of advice is to BE PATIENT! Most of us ate garbage for decades & never heal/get well as fast as we would prefer. Trust your body to heal itself once you stop eating poisons, toxins, carbs & the evilly destructive thing called sugar! It works if you stick with it & keep things at the eating meat, drinking water level.
9) Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet.
The carnivore diet can become mainstream if we but share our stories of healing with the world. No pseudo science can ever trump our personal experiences. No amount of Big Food propaganda can make our health journey’s invalid. But we must expend the energy & seek out ways to share our experiences living carnivorously!
10) Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow your journey.
