Interview with Leigh
1) Introduce Yourself.
My name is Leigh Roberts.I am 24 years old. I’m a stay at home mother to two young children under the age of Two! My hobbies include cooking, baking, swimming, cycling, and playing squash.
2) How did you eat before Carnivore.
Last year, I was pregnant with my daughter who is now 10 months old. She was predicted to be a very small baby when born. This was a result of suffering from really bad hyperemesis in the first half of my pregnancy which had left me in hospital on several drips. As soon as i was able to eat again, I ate it all! It had worked, She was born a decent 8lb 1oz.
I gained a huge amount of weight from eating so much and thought that I would lose it all during breastfeeding but that didn’t happen. I was still eating everything I could get my hands on and downing calorie shakes to boost my milk supply. I stopped breastfeeding at 11 weeks. (This was not weight related in anyway)
I then decided to do keto but I found macro counting absolutely tedious. I hated constanly counting macros and trying to figure out how much of everything I should eat, I lasted a little while but around Christmas, I gave up and let myself indulge with the family
3) Why did you try Carnivore to begin with.
I wondered if I was able to have zero carbs, no more eating vegetables as I’ve always been a huge meat lover. I googled it and came across Carnivore. I didn’t find much information apart from the negative reviews and sites calling it a fad diet, I wanted to see the other side and so I decided to join several groups on Facebook and check out what the real Carnivores was saying and how it benefits them! I ended up starting on new years day!
4) How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet.
At the beginning, I wasn’t very strict about it, I was drinking drinks containing artificial sweeteners, I was eating tons of dairy and drinking spirits, I was getting the results that I hoped for. On my birthday (which is mid march), I accidentally drank a coke cherry that I wrongly assumed was zero sugar with rum and I had the worse stomach pains, the next three days was painful and I broke out in terrible acne, I then realised that I need to be more careful with what I’m eating. I soon moved on to drinking just water and I decided to cut out the cheese and cream which I believe was also holding me back. I now eat Beef, Seafood, Eggs, Fish and salt.
5) What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet.
The major one has been weightloss! It was the original reason for starting carnivore and it actually worked! I started off as 68kg which is overweight for my height and I am now a healthy 55kgs!
Another benefit has been the change in my skin and hair. My skin is a lot clearer and after 10 years of acne, its a huge relief! I have tried all sorts of acne treatments for my skin from over the counter treatments, prescription treatments and even antibiotics for 3 years. None of these worked. If only my teenage self knew about carnivore!
My hair is so thick now! I actually recently shaved it off because I want to grow it out natural and undyed. So far it’s thicker than ever and I cannot wait to see how it looks when it is long again!
6) What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet.
The negatives for me personally would be the carb cravings. The rest of my family are not carnivore, the arent even close. There is always junk food in the house and it does get hard to resist but then I think about that diet coke and cringe, there’s no way that I would put up with 3 days of pain for a custard pastry! 😉
7) Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do.
I don’t exercise anymore than I usually would but I have found that the exercise that I do is A LOT easier than how it was before, I have more energy and endurance! I don’t know if that’s carnivore related, weightloss related or both but it definitely makes exercise more fun and rewarding!
8) What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet.
Do it, seriously, just try it for a month and see how you feel! You will never know if it’s right for you if dont take that leap!
9) Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet.
No. And that’s okay!
