Fat Loss and Lean Muscle

I think 99.9% of people who have done carnivore for more than 3 months, will report a much improved body composition than when they started.

It is almost a given that you will look better in a shirt or dress, than you did previously.

Most people will drop body fat % and increase lean muscle… or they have decreased fat and maintained the muscle they had so still appear more muscular.

Regardless, you will look better in the mirror and be happier in your own skin.

The great thing is it is so easy.

You can do no exercise and eat steak and look better than most people on the street.

If you want to look really good, you can add in the weights and cardio for sure.

Its that simple.

Problem is there is no money to be made from such simplicity.

World Carnivore Month 2021 – Teeth – Day 20

Teeth

I don’t think it is particularly controversial to suggest that the Carnivore Diet can improve tooth heath, or at least stop the progression of dental disease.

It just seems logical.

It is a low sugar diet, and surely everyone understands the harmful effect of sugar on teeth.

Then you have no other harmful antioxidants and oxalates causing havoc.

Finally, the carnivore diet provides all the nutrition you need to build healthy teeth and gums.

I have always had strong teeth and have never had any issues with them, so I cannot say if they have improved on carnivore… they certainly haven’t declined and I haven’t got scurvy or anything stupid like that.

Weston A. Price is a great resource for tooth health if people want to check the books out. Where he showed people on traditional diets had great tooth health, as soon as they went onto a standard western diet… bad things would start to happen.

World Carnivore Month 2021 – Joint Pain – Day 19

Joint Pain

There are many reasons why you might suffer joint pain, for example because of an injury, repetitive stress, or arthritis.

It can be mild, seasonal, but it also can be chronic and debilitating.

I did a post regarding chronic inflammation yesterday, and I have a feeling the are inextricably linked.

Especially if you believe that a diet filled will sugar, grains, and seed oils are problematic.

What if this chronic inflammation naturally settled in weak areas, like areas filled with scar tissue in the knee or ankle for instance.

What if changing your diet would reduce the “pooling” of this inflammation in weak areas, meaning at least you could find relief and at best you would begin to heal.

I think that is what happened with me. My ankles are a weak point, and inflammation would pool here, and for 10 years I had stiff ankles every morning.

2 weeks later on carnivore no stiff ankles.

2 weeks isn’t long enough for structural weaknesses and scar tissue to heal. So, it is likely it was the inflammation that caused the stiffness. Not having the inflammation there meant it feels like my ankles have healed but I don’t think they have in the strictest sense of the word. As I bet if I ate too much crap the stiffness would soon return.

Inflammation

Inflammation is a great defensive method for you body, if you twist your ankle it will swell up. This might be annoying but your body is protecting itself to then allow healing.

Your body has many defensive strategies like this. The problem is if you are harming your body on a daily basis, then you will have chronic inflammation which is always there. One of the ways you can harm your body on a daily basis is through something most people do everyday… eating.

If you have a diet filled with sugar and vegetable seed oils you are stressing your body everyday.

Luckily a change in diet will quickly and easily reduce, and then reverse inflammation issues.

Just remember everything you eat either helps you or harms you.

So choose wisely, because where every single chronic disease is found, inflammation is found right there too.

World Carnivore Month – IBS – Day 17

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Basically it is digestive distress, with symptoms like bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhoea, and cramps.

It can just manifest occasionally or chronically.

The NHS helpfully states there is no cure, and no exact cause, but it is probably just something that causes the food to pass too fast or too slow through your digestive system.

If you report possible IBS problems to your doctor, here in the UK you will probably get a Coeliac disease blood test or you will get your poop tested for IDB and infections.

And too be fair the NHS do make a point of stressing diet and lifestyle changes will be needed. And their dietary advice isn’t too bad, but it could be a lot better.

Most digestive issues seem to happen in the Large intestine, so I think if you ate food that digested mainly in the stomach and small intestine then you would be less likley to suffer from digestive diseases like IBS.

World Carnivore Month 2021 – Hair – Day 16

Hair

Whilst I am a member of the brotherhood of the bald, I do have hair and whilst I cannot claim any has grown back I can definitely state that the hair I do have grows quicker.

I do not think my hair has receded any more in the last few years, and I do have to shave my head more often. Before carnivore I could just shave it once a week and it would still be short. If I wanted to keep a really tight cut nowadays I would probably have to shave it 2 or 3 times a week.

The Wife also said the last time she went in for a hair cut, the hairdresser couldn’t believe how many inches had grow since the previous appointment.

There is no magic here, there are just a few general pieces of logic which you can follow down the Carnivore is good for Hair path!

Firstly it is a nutrient dense diet so your body is getting all the nutrients it needs.

If you are protein and nutrient deficient like a lot of people are on various versions of the standard western diet, then hair growth and quality will suffer. In a deficient state your body will prioritise primary systems, which your hair is not.

Regardless of if you follow a high protein carnivore diet like a protein sparing modified fast, or you eat at the low end like Paleo Medicina… you will still be consuming a lot more essential amino acids than basically any other diet around. So you will have more than enough building blocks for your primary systems, meaning there is plenty left over for secondary functions like hair.

Then finally just simple general health. The carnivore diet puts you into a general state of well-being, you will likely have lost weight and reduced inflammation… so you are much more likely to have healthy hair too.

High Blood Pressure

Otherwise known as hypertension.

Chronic hypertension is associated with increased risk of heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, aneurysms, kidney disease, and vascular dementia.

The numbers

This is truly shocking in my opinion.

1.13 billion people have high blood pressure… that is insane!

1 in 4 men.

1 in 5 women.

Considering what it can lead to and how easy it is to resolve, the numbers are very disheartening.

Treatment

The NHS are meant to tell you to change your lifestyle and if that doesn’t work you will be given drugs.

From what I have heard from people around me, a cursory mention of lifestyle will be made, but the drugs will be dished out pretty quick.

Causes

Our glorious NHS in the UK. Say the following will increase your risk of high blood pressure: being overweight, not exercising enough, too much coffee and booze, smoking, and been over 65.

Laughably they also state a diet too high in salt, and too low in fruit and veg.

Huge eye roll moment.

Carnivore Diet vs Hypertension

Well the carnivore diet is usually high in salt, and definitly low in fruit and veg.

So carnivores should be walking around with high blood pressure right?

Nope.

In fact I have numerous stories where poeple have resolved their high blood pressure issues with carnivore.

They say that the eyes are a window to your soul.

Well I think it is fair to say that your skin is a window to your health.

If you have issues with your skin, I think it is likely that there are underlying issues going on in your body you need to deal with.

And I don’t mean just buying some cream.

The numbers

Medscape reckon 80% of people will suffer from Acne vulgaris at some time in their life… that can’t be true surely!

And 20% of people in American have bouts of serious Acne in their lives. Even that figure seems really high.

But then again I am sure it is suggested that 84% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy, so I shouldn’t be surprised I guess.

I do believe most skin issues can be dealt with by a diet and lifestyle change. And there are many diets could achieve this I am guessing…

Upwards of 12% of people suffer from thyroid issues at some point in their lives.

Women are up to 8 times more likely to have thyroid issues.

World Carnivore Month 2021 – Insomnia – Day 12

What is Insomnia

Some form of poor or no sleep, on a regular basis.

You may not be able to sleep at all, or find it hard to get to sleep, regularly wake up, feel irritable, and feel tired no matter how much you sleep.

The numbers

It has been suggested between 50-60% of adults suffer some form of sleep issues or deficiency, with 10-30% of adults suffering spells of chronic insomnia. They are pretty frightening stats, as sleep quality and duration is a huge factor in general health.

How to treat it

To be fair this is one of the few ailments that modern medicine recognise that lifestyle is the main problem, and they will try to correct that and improve your sleep routine. Then if that fails they will pump you full of sleeping tablets.

Does Carnivore help

Nearly everyone I interview for the carnivore diet success stories will mention improved sleep, which I ll do another post on later.
