Interview with Emanuel

1) Introduce Yourself.

Hello I am Emanuel, I’m from Portugal originally but I live in Northern Ireland with my wife and 4 children, 3 of which are under 3 years of age! We have a very fun and busy house.

I was in a car crash 5 years ago, I had to stop training and I pulled up a bunch of weight! I fell into depression and was miserable! But last year I had to have a very hard look at myself and decided to embark on a weight loss journey which led to the carnivore diet.

2) How did you eat before Carnivore.

Before carnivore I was eating what’s now called carnivore keto. There was always a fatty piece of meat or fish plus eggs in my meals, plus vegetables and peanut butter. I had peanut butter every day! That was so addictive!

Before keto I was doing IIFYM with intermittent fasting which was how I started my weight loss a year ago!

3) Why did you try Carnivore to begin with.

I was doing keto and I was happy with how it made me feel, from a performance and mental perspective. However I am always looking for better way to improve myself and take my journey and progress further, so I can across Dr. Shaun Baker, Jordan Peterson and Mikhaila Peterson stories and I was hooked, I done so much research and eventually joined the carnivore for beginners group on Facebook where the owner has an app called : carnivore diet.

I downloaded and it explained everything in detail which gave me security to try it! So I did for 30 days. The results were good so I kept at it!

4) How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet.

I started my weight loss journey with intermittent fasting and I kept it as part of my routine with carnivore.

So the way I do it is by keeping the food list as simple as possible and fasting every other day for 16h to 20h depending on hunger levels.

Hunger levels went up from keto which I don’t see as a bad thing at all, I dont need to fast every day like I was doing on keto either.

I am more in tune with my body, I listen to it and I give it what it needs!

5) What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet.

That’s a great question! Where do I begin? Reduces inflammation in my joints, increased strength, muscle gain, fat loss, more endurance, more focus, I feel mentally better, no more signs of depression nor anxiety, libido went up, I am more productive and I am a better husband and father as a result! Oh and no cravings! Even if my wife is beside me eating ice cream I still don’t get craving which had always been my downfall.

6) What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet.

Probably too much information but the toilet situation wasn’t the best lol from being used to go everyday to not need to go everyday was weird for me. I did experience some discomfort and constipation which is a small price to pay for all the upsides that this way of eating offers

7) Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do.

Oh yes I do! I do Strength training 3 times a week, I squat, deadlift, bench press, weighted dips and pull ups mainly. Sometimes I throw some isolation exercises if I am in the mood but overall I stick to big compound movements where I can measure my progress on a weekly basis.

This is how I normally judge a diet, if I get stronger its good, if I lose strength then it’s not for me.

I’ll be honest much like the keto diet I lost Strength in week 1 and 2 due to lack of carbs, but after the adaptation period my Strength and recovery as gone up!

Most people would probably freak out and give up on week 1 after losing strength but I knew I had to stick to it for 30 days straight before I could draw any conclusions.

8) What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet.

Don’t be afraid to try it, you won’t die in 30 days if you try it!

Also don’t be afraid of asking for help or pointers.

Research research research and more research!

And if after all that you are still too afraid to try it then consider doing keto first, get fat adapted and then do the transition into carnivore.

9) Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet.

Yes eventually it will absolutely, as long as we have people like me and you with open mind to try and experiment stuff and then point people in the right direction. Also I think carnivore is now in the same spot where keto was a few years ago. Everybody including me was saying it was crazy; it would never work etc… Years later we all know that’s not the case at all. The carnivore is just one step above the ketogenic diet in my eyes, truly the ultimate elimination diet.

10) Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow your journey.

Anyone can follow my journey @fastingcarnivore  on both Instagram and Facebook. I do run challenges from time to time where I teach others how to eat carnivore and/or how to start implementing intermittent fasting.
