Interview with Aimee

Introduce Yourself

Hi, I’m Aimee Perrin. I’ll celebrate my 65th birthday in July. I’ve been married to my awesome artist husband, Dennis Perrin for 40 years this summer. He started eating carnivore 20 days before I did! We have 3 children, all grown up and 5 grandchildren, so I’m a grandmother!  I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1971 at age 16. By the time I was 22 years, after college, I became a vegetarian and started researching natural healing. Even though type 1 diabetes is called an incurable disease, I have believed that it is healable if I found the right combination of diet and/or therapies. So I haven’t touched the Standard American Diet for the last 43 years. I tried just about every healing diet out there over the years.

How did you eat before Carnivore?

Right before carnivore, I had eaten very low carb, high fat or Keto for the last 9 years. But before that, I was raw vegan for 7 years from 2003-2010. Before that, I was low carb eating meat, eggs, cheese, and veggies for 1996-2003. Before that was about 20 years ovo-lacto Vegetarian from 1976-1996. And before that, I was a kid eating the Standard American Diet.

Why did you try Carnivore to begin with?

I’ll try any diet that I feel promises to improve my health, period. I’m hoping to heal type 1 diabetes, 48 years, and improve my hands, dupuytren contracture, causing all fingers to stay bent.

How do you personally approach the Carnivore Diet

I’m open to switching things up, but right now I eat eggs and bacon for breakfast, a half a steak for lunch, usually a ribeye, and a burger and egg scramble and butter with pork belly. I tend to eat a high-fat version, using raw grass-fed jersey butter that I get from a local farm. The meat and eggs I eat come mostly from a local farm. I’m planning on giving up coffee and dairy next month for a 30-day experiment to see if that could help further in my healing.

What benefits have you seen since starting the Carnivore Diet?

My energy is better, all day. The food is simple to prepare and to buy and extremely satisfying. The floaters in my eyes are nearly completely gone. My sleep is better and my dreams have increased and are interesting. I used to almost never dream. I used to have this pesky patch of flaking painful and irritated skin on an eyebrow, and now it’s completely gone! And I am definitely hoping for more healing. Travel is very easy on carnivore!

What negatives have you found with the Carnivore Diet

It took over 5 and a half months for the diarrhea every morning to stop. But now I have formed poops. I really don’t see any negatives.

Do you exercise on the Carnivore Diet, if so how do you find it and what do you do

I walk several miles every day and I do body weight exercises like pushups, squats and stuff like that. As part of my month long healing experiment, I am doing 100 pushups everyday. That will be May 12 to June 12.

What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in trying this diet, but hasn’t taken the leap yet

Do it! Eat meat that you like. If you get muscle cramps, take potassium and magnesium and drink plenty of water.

Do you think Carnivore will ever be accepted as a mainstream diet

I’m not sure I would even want that, I like being different. I do think the Carnivore Diet will be known as one of the options when someone is looking to lose weight or improve their health. Speaking of losing weight, that was never a reason for me, I’ve always been thin and haven’t been an unconscious eater for the last 43 years, that long without junk food!

Anything you would like to add, and where can people follow your journey?

My Instagram is @thebuttereater_t1d and I’m Aimee Fields Perrin on FB. I write a blog about my journey that I started when I was Keto, so there are some keto recipes on the blog. I’ll certainly have a new blog on there soon about my month-long experiment with no dairy and no coffee –  www.thehappyhealinglife.com
